U.S. President Donald Trump has publicly called for a boycott of Bruce Springsteen‘s current tour after the legendary rocker delivered a highly critical political speech during his opening concert in Minnesota.
On Tuesday, March 31, Bruce Springsteen launched his “Land of Hope and Dreams” tour in Minneapolis alongside guitarist Tom Morello. Before performing a single note, the frontman addressed the audience, taking direct aim at the current administration.
Opening with a prayer for overseas military personnel, he declared that The E Street Band was present to utilize the power of rock music to defend American ideals.
“The mighty E Street Band is here tonight to call upon the righteous power of art, of music, of rock & roll in dangerous times. We are here in celebration and defense of our American ideals, democracy, our Constitution, and our sacred American promise. The America that I love, the America that I’ve written about for 50 years, that’s been a beacon of hope and liberty around the world, is currently in the hands of a corrupt, incompetent, rac*st, reckless, and treasonous administration,” Springsteen told the cheering crowd (via Alternative Nation).
Springsteen continued: “Our museums are being told to whitewash American history of any unpleasant or inconvenient facts like the full history of the brutality of slav*ry. We have a president who can’t handle the truth.”
“You want to talk about snowflakes? We have a president who can’t handle the truth. This is happening now. While working Americans struggle, our president and his family enrich themselves by billions of dollars trading on the people’s office in corruption unmatched in American history. This is happening now. This White House is destroying the American idea and our reputation around the world. To many, we are no longer looked upon as an often imperfect but strong defender of democracy standing for the global good. We are no longer the land of the free and the home of the brave. We are now, to many, America the reckless, unpredictable, predatory rogue nation. That is this administration’s and this president’s legacy. This is happening now.”
Following the speech, the musicians launched into a cover of “War” by The Temptations, immediately followed by the classics “Born in the U.S.A.” and “Death to My Hometown“.
Two days later, on Thursday, April 2, Donald Trump fired back via his Truth Social platform. The president heavily criticized the singer’s appearance and talent, labeling him a “bad, and very boring singer” and a “total loser.”
“Bruce Springsteen, who looks like a dried up prune who has suffered greatly from the work of a really bad plastic surgeon, has long had a horrible and incurable case of Trump Derangement Syndrome, sometimes referred to as TDS,” Trump wrote. “The guy is a total loser who spews hate against a President who won a Landslide Election, including the popular vote, all Seven Swing States, and 86% of the Counties across America.”
Contrasting his current term with that of former President Joe Biden, he then urged his political base to avoid the ongoing tour entirely.
“Under Sleepy Joe and the Dems, our Country was DEAD, and now we have the ‘hottest’ Country, by far, anywhere in the World. MAGA SHOULD BOYCOTT HIS OVERPRICED CONCERTS, WHICH SUCK. SAVE YOUR HARD EARNED MONEY. AMERICA IS BACK!!!”
