Iron Maiden frontman Bruce Dickinson has embarked on his first extensive solo tour of North America in nearly three decades, in support of his latest album, The Mandrake Project. The tour has already delivered some live rarities and surprises, as the band is performing a career-spanning setlist.
During the tour’s third stop at the Marquee Theatre in Tempe, Arizona, Dickinson showcased a mix of new material from his latest record and deep cuts from his expansive solo catalog. You can watch the full concert down below.
A major highlight for fans was the first-ever live performance of two songs during the tour’s opening night in Anaheim: “Shadow Of The Gods” from The Mandrake Project and the Iron Maiden classic, “Flash Of The Blade.”
Before launching into the Iron Maiden track, Dickinson addressed the crowd. “Nobody has ever played this song, apart from on the record, of course, but nobody has ever played this song. And it’s a song that I wrote. So I don’t know whether any of you have got any clue what song it might be. But like usual, it’s a conundrum. I shall not tell you. You will just have to figure it out. It probably won’t take long… You’ll die as you lived in a flash of the blade,” he told the audience during first show of the tour.
For this tour, Dickinson is joined by a new lineup that includes Dave Moreno on drums, Mistheria on keyboards, and Tanya O’Callaghan on bass. The group also features new additions, guitarists Philip Näslund and Chris Declercq. Notably absent from the touring lineup is Dickinson’s longtime guitarist and collaborator Roy “Z” Ramirez.
