Polish extreme metal titans Behemoth have today, May 9, 2025, released their highly anticipated and characteristically provocative new studio album, The Sh*t Ov God, via Nuclear Blast Records. Coinciding with the album’s launch, the band has also premiered a stunning and intense music video for the record’s latest single, “Sowing Salt.”
The video for “Sowing Salt,” directed by Zev Deans (a previous collaborator with the band), is dominated by post-apocalyptic and retro-futuristic imagery, continuing Behemoth‘s tradition of visually striking and thematically sharp presentations. Behemoth founder and frontman Adam “Nergal” Darski describes the track as one of the band’s most ferocious offerings.
“‘Sowing Salt’ is arguably one of the most brutal compositions in Behemoth‘s catalog to date. Unrelenting. Unapologetic. Absolute,” Nergal stated. “The video was directed by Zev Deans, with whom we’ve had the pleasure to collaborate before. He’s crafted a visual that powerfully completes the song — musically and lyrically. And the lyrics? Just as radical and confrontational as music itself.”
The new album, Behemoth‘s thirteenth full-length, is touted as potentially their “most inflammatory and extreme record to date.” It features eight tracks delving into themes of humanity, divinity, and defiance. The album’s title, The Sh*t Ov God, was a deliberate choice, as Nergal explained: “We chose this provocative title deliberately, rejecting subtlety in favor of a direct and polarizing statement. It’s a defiant plunge into the depths, daring to seek the absolute even in the gutter.” The album’s artwork, featuring an inverted Christogram “IHS,” further underscores its confrontational nature.
Reflecting on this new work and Behemoth‘s enduring journey, Nergal shared his perspective on the band’s artistic essence and the significance of this release.
“I’ve reached a point in Behemoth‘s journey and my own creativity where words and statements mean less and less,” he commented. “The true essence of who we are and what we stand for lies in our music, our art, our visuals, our sounds, our performances, and the ways we connect with you. I deeply believe Behemoth represents transcendent, timeless art.”
He continued, highlighting the album’s place in their discography: “The number thirteen — so magical and significant. If this were to be our final album, I could say I die a proud man. Without a shadow of a doubt, this is the most refined, purest representation of Behemoth. No filler, no excess — just the very best we have to offer, handed to you. Hail S*tan.”
