Bassist Olivier Pinard Departs From Cattle Decapitation, Diego Soria Steps In

Cattle Decapitation has announced the departure of their bassist, Olivier Pinard, who has decided to dedicate his focus to his other long-time band, Cryptopsy, and his personal life. Pinard had been with the San Diego deathgrind band since 2018 and contributed to their acclaimed albums Death Atlas and Terrasite, as well as numerous world tours. He has been a member of Cryptopsy since 2011.

In a statement, Pinard expressed his gratitude for his seven-year tenure with Cattle Decapitation. “Today I’m announcing my departure from Cattle Decapitation,” he wrote. “I’ve been extremely lucky and fortunate to be in 2 major touring bands at the same time. But now it’s time to go home and focus on Cryptopsy and my personal life. I’m grateful for the 7 years I did with Cattle Decap and everything we accomplished together (Death Atlas, Terrasite and countless world tours). I keep nothing but good memories from that era of my life.” He also thanked his bandmates Travis Ryan, Josh Elmore, Dave McGraw, and Belisario Dimuzio for their friendship and the band’s dedicated fanbase. Pinard mentioned he will take a few months off before returning to the stage later this year.

Cattle Decapitation acknowledged Pinard‘s demanding schedule of being in two touring bands and stated their understanding of his decision. “Its a somber day in the Cattle camp as we must announce the departure of our bass player and buddy, Olivier Pinard,” the band shared. “Oli has decided his focus must shift back to his home band Cryptopsy and his personal life. Being in two touring bands is very demanding on a human and while we are sad to see him go, we more than understand. We wish Oli the best of luck and be sure to check out the new song they just dropped and pick up their new album when it comes out!”

Stepping in to fill the bass duties for Cattle Decapitation‘s upcoming European tour is Diego Soria of Broken Hope. Soria has previously filled in for the band on the “Chaos And Carnage” tour and other occasions. Cattle Decapitation is currently on their European tour and has also announced a return to the continent in June 2025 for headline shows and festival appearances, including Download Festival, Copenhell, and Graspop. Vocalist Travis Ryan stated: “It’s been too long since we played the June festivals in the EU and we look forward to returning! This time the run includes a few fests that fans have been demanding en masse for many years: Download, Copenhell & Graspop! It also sees us making appearances in areas we haven’t been in a long while such as Mystic Festival in Poland, Nummirock in Finland and Rock Imperium in Spain! See you there!”
