Guns N’ Roses frontman Axl Rose is set to be reimagined as a half-human, half-robot freedom fighter in a new, multi-volume graphic novel series titled Axl Rose: Appetite for Destruction. The “neon-noir fever dream,” co-created by Rose himself and published by Sumerian Comics, will cast the rock icon as the central hero in a cyberpunk conspiracy that could decide the fate of humanity.
The project was announced on Monday, September 29, with pre-orders for a range of exclusive collector’s bundles now live. In a statement, Sumerian Comics Co-Founder and series co-creator Nathan Yocum described the high-concept world of the series.
“Axl Rose: Appetite for Destruction is a raw, neon-noir fever dream, part rock anthem, part cyberpunk prophecy. Axl and I built a world where rebellion isn’t just attitude, it’s survival,” Yocum said. “It’s Axl like you’ve never seen him before, on the front lines of a battle for humanity’s future.”
Set in a “neon-drenched Paradise City” where humans and robots co-exist, the story follows Axl Rose, a “half-human, half-robot” who finds solace in the music of a local lounge singer. When she vanishes under mysterious circumstances, his search for answers drags him into a deadly conspiracy.
The project is being positioned as a major new intellectual property, with potential to expand beyond the comic book medium.
“This graphic novel creates a new IP centered on Axl’s iconic presence and uncompromising spirit, and provides a foundation for a larger narrative that will extend well beyond the page,” said Bart Saunt, SVP of Brand Partnerships at Primary Wave, Axl‘s publishing partner.
The series features a high-profile creative team, including art by Frank Mazzoli (DUNE: Edge of a Crysknife) and lettering by Micah Myers (American Psycho). Exclusive pre-order bundles, including a limited tier with an Axl Rose signed bookplate, are available now at the Sumerian Comics website.
