Avenged Sevenfold has continued its annual Halloween tradition by releasing a new surprise single, a cover of the Misfits classic “Some Kinda Hate.” The track, which was released today, October 24, is the band’s fifth such cover in as many years.

In a brief statement posted to social media, the band announced the new track to their fans in their typical, slightly cryptic fashion.

“In keeping with the spirit of the season, this year’s offering of ‘Some Kinda Hate‘ is available to all. Enjoy?” the band wrote.

The original song was first released on the Misfits’ 1985 compilation album, Legacy Of Brutality. This new release follows the band’s previous Halloween covers, including “Hybrid Moments” (2021), “Last Caress” (2022), “Astro Zombies” (2023), and “Skulls” (2024). The previous four tracks all featured guitarist Zacky Vengeance on lead vocals.

The new music arrives during a period of forced downtime for the band. Avenged Sevenfold recently postponed their entire Fall 2025 Latin American tour after frontman M. Shadows was diagnosed with a vocal fold hematoma. Shadows explained to fans that it was the same injury that required surgery in 2017, and that he was making the “responsible decision” to rest his voice to avoid another operation. The tour has been rescheduled for early 2026.

Shadows has also been in the news recently for non-musical reasons. The frontman faced online backlash after sending a personal video message to two freed Israeli hostages who were fans of the band. In a subsequent interview with Rolling Stone, Shadows defended his actions, stating: “To me, that video is just a human doing something for another human. It’s not making a political stance.” In the same interview, he also expressed his respect for David Draiman of Disturbed.

Avenged Sevenfold is currently supporting their 2023 album, Life Is But A Dream…, which was released after a four-year writing and recording process.
