A potentially disastrous situation unfolded in London as Swedish metal outfit Avatar was forced to abandon their concert mid-set. During their February 14th performance at Exhibition White City, severe electrical issues compromised the stage, resulting in damaged gear and dangerous shocks to the touring crew.
While Avatar has typically been playing sets of around 17 songs on their current European and UK tour, the London performance was abruptly halted after just 12 tracks.
Following the scary ordeal, the band’s frontman, Johannes Eckerström, released a video statement to address the sudden cancellation and update fans on the condition of the crew. He explained that a severe malfunction caused the performance space to become a massive electrical hazard.
He said:
“Hello everyone watching, particularly the people of London who came out to see our show tonight. As you heard, we didn’t make it quite to the finish line.”
“The whole stage became electrified. It burnt up some of our equipment and also shocked — severely shocked — two guys in our crew.”
“We have deemed this venue not safe to perform in any longer. Like, we could get hurt, we we’re simply lucky. The crew guys are fine now, so also lucky. But this is not a safe place to be for you or for us, so how about a rain check?”
“We want to figure out what we can do to come back as soon as we can and do you right London. I think both you and us deserve that very much.”
“Thank you for an amazing hour-plus at least, it was supposed to be a bit longer. You were amazing, we were pretty amazing too. Let’s find an amazing place to finish this.”
Fortunately, the injured crew members are recovering, and the band plans to continue their current run. Avatar is scheduled to proceed with the rest of their tour across the UK and Europe, featuring support from Alien Weaponry.
