Anthrax is keeping the momentum going ahead of the release of Cursum Perficio with the arrival of “Everybody’s Got A Plan,” the third single from the band’s first new studio album in ten years. Alongside the track, the thrash metal veterans have also premiered an official music video packed with footage from life on the road.
Rather than focusing solely on a staged performance, the clip offers a glimpse into Anthrax‘s recent tour, blending backstage moments with live shots from the band’s July 7 concert alongside Iron Maiden in Lisbon, Portugal. The fast-moving visuals mirror the song’s intensity while highlighting the camaraderie between the band members.
Charlie Benante revealed that the track quickly became one of his personal favorites on the upcoming album and explained the inspiration behind the video.
“‘Everybody’s Got a Plan’ has always been one of my favorite songs on Cursum Perficio. The video basically shows the band on and off stage in a montage of video clips that kinda matches the velocity of the song. The line ‘Everybody’s Got A Plan until they get punched in the face’ is such a great line, and so true!”
The song’s title is a nod to the famous quote popularized by boxing legend Mike Tyson: “Everybody has a plan until they get punched in the face.”
Guitarist Scott Ian said the band simply wanted to capture the fun they’ve been having while touring together: “We wanted to capture us having fun on tour and what better way to do that? That was a plan that didn’t end up with a punch in the face! Have fun watching my friends!”
Cursum Perficio is scheduled for release on September 18 via Megaforce in the U.S. and Nuclear Blast in Europe. The album marks the first full-length effort from Anthrax in a decade, following up 2016’s For All Kings, which broke into the Top 10 on the Billboard 200 chart. The album’s title is a Latin phrase translating to “My journey has come to an end,” “My journey is over,” or “I complete my journey.”
The band began recording Cursum Perficio in earnest during 2022, tracking at Studio 606 in Los Angeles—the studio owned by Dave Grohl. Co-produced by Jay Ruston and Anthrax, the sessions focused on crafting an aggressive, high-energy album that honors the band’s classic thrash roots while expanding their signature sound.
