Anthrax Completes Mixing On First Studio Album In A Decade: ‘It’s A Very New York Album’

The decade-long wait for a successor to For All Kings is officially over. Anthrax drummer Charlie Benante has confirmed that the thrash metal legends have finished mixing their long-awaited new studio album, signaling that a 2026 release is imminent.

The mixing sessions took place at Dave Grohl‘s Studio 606 in Northridge, California, with longtime producer Jay Ruston at the helm. Ruston, who previously worked on 2011’s Worship Music and 2016’s For All Kings, has once again partnered with the band to shape their sonic assault.

Benante broke the news via social media, offering a humorous and distinctly regional description of the new material’s attitude.

“We completed the new Anthrax album and it’s a Doozy,” Benante wrote in a story which you can see down below. “The working album title is ‘hey, go fu** yourself’. It’s a very New York album. You can grab a slice and walk around and listen to it while eating.”

The completion of the record marks a significant milestone for the band, which has spent the last several years meticulously crafting the material. In a recent interview with “Thomann’s Guitars & Basses“, bassist Frank Bello expressed his relief and excitement that the project has finally crossed the finish line.

“I think it’s been almost 10 years since the last Anthrax record, which is insane. We all are very, very hungry, ’cause we’re in mixing right now,” Bello stated. “The new Anthrax record, I’m proud to say, I’m very psyched about this, that it’s mixing, and now we get to hear the whole thing of it. And just to hear them really come to life now after all that, and, really, the parts are all done. Everything’s locked in.”

Bello emphasized that the band refused to rush the process, adhering to a strict quality control standard that has defined their career.

“You know what it is, man? I think you never stop being a fan… I’m an Anthrax fan, so I wanna hear the best of the best,” Bello explained. “When you hear a bad riff, it’s out. Something’s gotta work and it’s gotta be good enough for us. That’s why we know if it’s good enough for us, everybody will like it.”

The songwriting process was a logistical feat, relying on digital collaboration between Benante in Chicago, guitarist Scott Ian in Los Angeles, and Bello in New York, before the trio convened to finalize arrangements.

With the album now in the can, Anthrax is preparing for a massive global touring schedule that stretches deep into 2026.
