Music critic Anthony Fantano has emerged victorious in the defamation lawsuit filed against him by Falling In Reverse frontman Ronnie Radke. The legal battle, which spanned over a year, came to a close after a judge dismissed the complaint and ordered Radke to pay Fantano‘s legal fees. The conflict originated from an August 2023 video by Fantano titled “This Guy Sucks,” in which he heavily criticized Radke‘s music and behavior.
The lawsuit was officially filed in August 2024, with Radke‘s complaint alleging that Fantano’s nearly eight-minute video went far beyond a standard critique. The complaint stated that Fantano‘s commentary, which included a review of Radke’s past and present conduct, was an “unfounded rumormongering and outright untruth” that exceeded “the bounds of permissible commentary.”
In his own video response to winning the case, Fantano detailed the chaotic process, including the claim that Radke initially sued the wrong Anthony Fantano, which led to legal delays. As a counter-move, Fantano filed an Anti-SLAPP motion, which argues that a lawsuit is frivolous and intended to silence free speech. The judge ultimately sided with Fantano’s defense, solidifying the victory.
Despite the legal outcome, the feud has continued to escalate. Radke released a video statement confirming his loss, but insisted that he had expected the negative outcome all along. He has since been mocking Fantano online and from the stage during recent Falling In Reverse shows, attempting to turn his legal defeat into a public relations spectacle.
In his video, Fantano also promised to delve further into Radke’s post-verdict claims in a future video, leaving the door open for another chapter in this high-profile conflict. For now, the legal record is clear: the judge’s decision confirmed that Fantano’s critique, while harsh, was protected speech, leaving Radke to contend with the financial and public consequences of the legal action he initiated.
