King Diamond has welcomed Gus G. into its lineup following the departure of longtime guitarist Andy La Rocque, who has now shared his first statement about the split after more than 40 years with the band.
La Rocque confirmed that he is moving forward with Lex Legion, the new project featuring four-fifths of King Diamond‘s classic late-’80s lineup. The band recently released its self-titled debut album through MNRK Music Group.
Andy wrote: “Hi everyone ! Just a short heads up: as many of you have seen I’ve left the King Diamond band.
“Leaving a ‘family’ after more than 40 years full of great music, friends and lots of good memories is not an easy decision but we mutually decided to part ways in a respectful and friendly manner wishing each other the absolute best for the future!
“Now is the time for me to move on with full focus and write some more music and play live with Lex Legion.
“Thanks for your support, See you out there!”
La Rocque‘s departure from King Diamond was announced on July 24. According to the band’s namesake frontman, the decision to part ways was mutual and made with respect for the guitarist’s more than four decades of contributions to the group.
Following the announcement, King Diamond revealed that Gus G. would be taking over guitar duties. The Greek guitarist, known for his work with Firewind and his time performing with Ozzy Osbourne, will also compose and record with the band in addition to touring with them.
As recently as March, La Rocque said King Diamond’s long-delayed horror trilogy was still aiming for a possible 2026 release, beginning with Saint Lucifer’s Hospital 1920. He said he had sent King Diamond roughly eight songs about four years ago, three of which were chosen, and that one had already been performed live. What becomes of that material now that its co-writer and would-be producer has left is unclear, and neither party has addressed it.
