Sepultura guitarist Andreas Kisser has unequivocally stated his intention to remain deeply involved in music following the conclusion of the band’s extensive “Celebrating Life Through Death” farewell tour. While the legendary Brazilian band prepares to wind down its 40-year career over the next couple of years, Kisser is already looking ahead to new creative chapters, assuring fans that the end of Sepultura does not mean the end of his musical output.
Kisser dismissed any notion of stepping away from his lifelong passion once the band takes its final bow. In recent interviews discussing the farewell tour and his future, he firmly asserted his dedication to his craft.
“Of course, I’ll be involved with music. That’s what I do, I love to do,” Kisser stated emphatically (as transcribed by Blabbermouth). “I’m not gonna quit Sepultura to sell cars or something like that. I’m gonna keep doing music. I still study music and et cetera.”
This forward-looking perspective comes as Sepultura approaches its planned conclusion, a juncture Kisser views as an opportunity for growth and change. Reflecting on the band’s relentless pace since he joined, he sees the current timing as advantageous for starting fresh.
“Since I joined Sepultura in ’87, we never stopped — never,” he recalled. “Even on the lockdown, we created an album. When we changed singers and managers and stuff, we were always rehearsing, we were always working towards the future and et cetera. And it feels like it’s a good momentum because we’re still young enough to be motivated to start something else from scratch.”
The decision to end the Sepultura chapter, influenced by the 40-year milestone and significant personal reflection, particularly after the passing of his wife, is framed by Kisser as a necessary step toward artistic renewal and exploring new possibilities. He embraces the shift:
“I mean, it’s a little scary, but at the same time it’s very exciting to feel that freedom that we could really express and really see what happens,” he admitted. “I think that’s why we are stopping — to get away of the comfort zone, to get away [and] artistically having different air to breathe.”
Kisser is not short on ideas for how to channel his creative energy after Sepultura. He detailed a range of existing commitments and potential new ventures he plans to pursue with more focus.
“I’m not really concerned too much about [my post-Sepultura] future,” he explained, preferring to stay present while acknowledging the possibilities. “I like to enjoy the moment… I have so many different options. I already have another band called De La Tierra. I have a radio show in São Paulo with my son for 13 years now. And I have some parallel things that I already do that I might have more time, really, to dedicate to those. And I also wanna do a guitar lesson, finally a video talking about my style, Sepultura‘s music, acoustic guitar and stuff, to put more time on that and really do that. A lot of people ask for that as well, so I wanna really have more time to do this. And I know so many musicians, so many bands. I’m really talking to people, ‘Oh, let’s do this, let’s do that.’ I have an idea to do a reggae project with Derrick [Green, Sepultura frontman]. Who knows? [Laughs] I like to keep it open.”
This variety underscores his eagerness to explore different musical styles and dedicate energy to diverse projects once the extensive touring and recording cycle of Sepultura concludes.
While Sepultura‘s “Celebrating Life Through Death” tour continues towards its planned finale in late 2026, including the recording of a final live album, fans can be assured that Andreas Kisser‘s musical journey is far from over. He approaches the next phase with a clear commitment to continue creating and palpable excitement for the artistic freedom that lies ahead.
