Allegaeon Releases “Wake Circling Above” Video From Their New Album

Technical death metal band Allegaeon released a new video for their track “Wake Circling Above.” The song is taken from their latest album, The Ossuary Lens, out now via Metal Blade Records. You can listen to the track down below.

The band’s guitarist Michael Stancel commented on the track: “So, one day in our group chat, [vocalist] Ezra [Haynes] was like, ‘Michael, I want something slow and heavy,’ and I was like, ‘DONE.’ I used a lot of inspiration from bands like Dimmu Borgir and Septicflesh to try and build these massive orchestral sections that set the tone as well as some noisy ‘ear candy’ sounds to add more dimension. This is probably the most different song on the record but still has all the ALLEGAEON-isms you’d want.”

The Ossuary Lens marks Allegaeon‘s seventh full-length release, but it’s the first to feature the return of original vocalist Ezra Haynes since his departure in 2015 after Elements of the Infinite. Replacing a frontman is no small feat, so Haynes’ return is cause for celebration. The cleaner vocal style heard on the band’s last three albums offered an intriguing artistic shift, reinvigorating their sound—but hearing Haynes’ raw, gravel-throated delivery again on this technically ferocious and brutally intense record is undeniably exciting.

While The Ossuary Lens isn’t a concept album in the strictest sense, it explores various perspectives on death. It was recorded with longtime producer Dave Otero at Flatline Audio in Denver, marking their sixth collaboration. Unsurprisingly, the album delivers a sonic assault, but the sheer intensity is tempered by rich melodic elements. It stands as Allegaeon‘s most cohesive and triumphant work to date.

“Each song is a different topic, however there’s always a different perspective of death tied in,” says Haynes. “Since the entire album revolves around this overarching theme of death, and the different viewpoints associated with it, we found ourselves very attached to the word ‘Ossuary,’ and since the album takes a look at death through different points of view, we found The Ossuary Lens to be very fitting for the album title.”
