All That Remains has announced a significant lineup change, confirming the amicable departure of guitarist Jason Richardson after a tenure of nearly seven years with the band. The news, shared by both All That Remains and Richardson on their respective social media channels today, Tuesday, July 29, underscores a mutual decision as Richardson pivots to prioritize his solo career and new ventures.
All That Remains issued a concise statement via their X account, expressing their gratitude and well wishes for Richardson’s future endeavors.
“All That Remains and Jason Richardson have decided to part ways as Jason focuses on his own projects. We love him and are grateful for the time, music and memories we’ve shared. We wish him nothing but success and happiness moving forward. We’re so excited to see what he has in store for the music world and we’re absolutely sure it is going to blow our collective minds.”
The band also took the opportunity to promote their latest album, Antifragile, encouraging fans to stream it and continue supporting Richardson.
Richardson echoed the amicable nature of the split in his own social media statement.
“All That Remains and I have decided to amicably part ways. I’m incredibly proud of the record we made together and grateful for the relationships I’ve built during my time with the band. With everything happening in my own career and new opportunities that I have ahead, I need to prioritize what makes the most sense for my long-term future.”
He teased upcoming updates, stating:
“There will be updates soon that I’m really excited to share with you all! I genuinely wish the rest of the band the absolute best in everything they choose to pursue. Excited for my next chapter! I’ve been grinding on a lot of different things behind the scenes and I’m feeling very optimistic rn.”
Jason Richardson‘s journey with All That Remains began at a critical juncture for the band. He joined as guitarist in 2018, stepping in after the unexpected passing of longtime lead guitarist Oli Herbert. Richardson played a vital role in helping the band fulfill their touring commitments for the 2018 album Victim of the New Disease. While his exit comes just months after the release of Antifragile earlier this year, Richardson was heavily involved in its creation, credited not only with guitars but also keyboards and programming on the album.
Born in Manassas, Virginia, Richardson’s musical roots run deep, with instruments readily available in his childhood home. Although he initially took piano lessons and tried violin and drums, the guitar became his primary focus as he sought an instrument for songwriting. At the age of 12, his father gifted him a gothic black Gibson Les Paul, igniting an intense period of practice. His obsession with Dream Theater, particularly the song “This Dying Soul,” drove him to save money for his first seven-string guitar at 14. His distinctive and inventive technique began to flourish during his time with local band Gallows Hill, which also featured future Veil of Maya bassist Danny Hauser. In an early attempt to promote Gallows Hill, Richardson even auditioned for All Shall Perish, aiming to draw attention to his own group.
Throughout his career, Richardson has been a prolific collaborator, lending his talents to various artists and bands including Falling In Reverse, Polyphia, August Burns Red, Veil of Maya, and Within Destruction. His departure from All That Remains marks the end of a significant chapter for both parties, opening the door for Richardson to focus on his burgeoning individual projects, the details of which are eagerly awaited by his fans. The band has not yet announced a replacement for Richardson’s contributions.
