Blue Medusa, the new project led by Alissa White-Gluz, continues its early creative run with the release of a brand-new single titled “Flying Monkey,” accompanied by an official music video. The track arrives on the heels of the band’s debut single, “Checkmate,” which first introduced the group’s dark, cinematic sound and conceptual depth.

Where “Checkmate” set the stage, “Flying Monkey” expands the universe significantly, pushing deeper into heavier emotional territory and more intricate storytelling. The new single is described as an explosive, layered, and emotionally intense piece that strengthens Blue Medusa’s identity as a bold new voice in contemporary heavy music.

At its core, “Flying Monkey” is built around symbolism and psychological narrative. The track and its visual counterpart are packed with hidden meanings, allegorical themes, and double entendres, all carefully embedded into both sound and imagery. Every aspect of the production — from styling and props to color grading and even environmental details like debris moving through the air — was intentionally crafted by Alissa White-Gluz to reflect the song’s underlying message.

The accompanying music video once again sees White-Gluz collaborating with director Vicente Cordero, continuing a creative partnership that defines the visual direction of the project. The single artwork was also created directly by White-Gluz, who digitally painted the piece herself, further emphasizing the hands-on artistic approach behind Blue Medusa.

Musically, the track highlights the distinct creative contributions of each member involved. The instrumentation was composed by guitarist Dani Sophia, who described the emotional headspace behind the song: “‘Flying Monkey’ was written in this really liminal space, this waiting area in-between chapters in my life, and the melodies reflect the themes of the nightmares I was having at the time. No matter where I was, I kept hearing an out-of-tune music box playing in the distance…”

White-Gluz, who co-produced and arranged the track while also writing the lyrics and vocal melodies, expressed her enthusiasm for the project and her collaborators: “‘Flying Monkey’ is exactly the kind of music I want to be making. I am so inspired by Dani and Alyssa. This Blue Medusa album is almost like writing my memoirs and I have loved every aspect of creating it.”

Guitarist Alyssa Day, who previously handled instrumentation on the debut single “Checkmate,” also steps into a standout role on the new track, delivering a distinctive solo during the bridge section. She explained her approach to the moment: “The bridge section of ‘Flying Monkey’ gave me a fun space to stretch outside my usual harmonic comfort zone and play with some scales and sequences I don’t always reach for. It turned into this quirky, sassy, techy little solo that I genuinely love playing. We had a blast shooting the video too, and I’m really excited for everyone to finally see and hear this one.”
