Alice In Chains was forced to cancel their concert scheduled for Thursday, May 8, 2025 (yesterday), at the Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, Connecticut, which was set to be their tour kickoff. The abrupt cancellation came after drummer Sean Kinney experienced a “non-life-threatening medical emergency” following the band’s soundcheck.
The band released an official statement via social media regarding the situation: “After our soundcheck this evening at the Mohegan Sun Arena, Sean experienced a non-life-threatening medical emergency. We unfortunately have to cancel tonight’s show. We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience. Refunds are available at the point of purchase.”
No further details on Kinney‘s specific condition were provided, but the band assured fans it was not life-threatening.
This cancellation casts a shadow over the start of Alice In Chains‘ planned run of shows, their first significant live activity since an appearance at the Sick New World festival in Las Vegas in April 2024. The band has a string of headlining concerts and festival appearances scheduled for May, followed by a performance at Black Sabbath‘s “Back to the Beginning” final show in the UK in July.
Their next scheduled performance is on May 10 in Camden, New Jersey, for the MMRBQ festival. In a recent interview with the “Whiplash” radio show, Alice In Chains singer William DuVall expressed the band’s anticipation for these dates: “Well, we’re excited for these dates we have coming up in May. We’re excited to get out there and see everyone. We are in regular contact and communication, and so we’ll just have to see what comes after May… But we’re excited about these shows in May. We’re really looking forward to it.”
For their upcoming headlining dates, Alice In Chains will be supported by the teenage metal band Chained Saint. DuVall, who produced Chained Saint‘s debut album Blindside, recently praised the young group in a Loudwire Nights conversation, saying, “These guys have a sense of what makes a song move… These kids are all in high school, rocking at this level. It was enough to get me down there.”
Fans are now awaiting updates on Sean Kinney‘s condition and any potential impact on the remaining tour dates.
