Legendary shock rocker Alice Cooper, at the age of 77, continues to embody huge passion for performance, revealing in a new interview that he “never gets tired” of his iconic stage persona or playing his classic anthems. Speaking with Marianne Sierk of Baltimore’s 98 Rock radio station, Cooper discussed his enduring energy and the evolution of his on-stage character.
“I never get tired of doing it. I never get tired of playing Alice. I mean, I’ve been doing it for 60 years,” Cooper stated (as transcribed by Blabbermouth). He explained the transformation of his on-stage alter ego: “There were two Alices. There was the original Alice, who was sort of the whipping boy. He was society’s problem. And when I got sober, I said, ‘I can’t play that character anymore. So now I’m gonna play Alice as an arrogant villain. He’s going to be this really arrogant villain.'”
This “arrogant villain” is a role he still relishes. “I never get tired of playing it,” Alice repeated. “You’d think I’d get tired of doing ‘[I’m] Eighteen‘ and ‘Under My Wheels‘ and all that. It’s so much fun.” He credited his current touring band – Ryan Roxie (guitar), Chuck Garric (bass), Tommy Henriksen (guitar), Glen Sobel (drums), and Nita Strauss (guitar) – for their talent and camaraderie: “You surround yourself with the best players. And it just so happens that the best players are all best friends. No egos. Nobody complaining.” He specifically praised Nita Strauss, calling her “an angel” and noting her dedication even while pursuing her own projects.
Adding to his ongoing solo work (his latest album being Road), a highly anticipated project is the return of the original Alice Cooper band. The surviving members – Alice Cooper himself, guitarist Michael Bruce, bassist Dennis Dunaway, and drummer Neal Smith – have reunited for a brand-new studio album titled The Revenge Of Alice Cooper. This LP, scheduled for release on July 25, 2025, via earMUSIC, is being heralded as a spiritual successor to their iconic early records like “School’s Out,” “Billion Dollar Babies,” “Love It to Death,” and “Killer.”
