Legendary shock rocker Alice Cooper and his wife Sheryl Cooper officially celebrated half a century of marriage by renewing their vows, according to Hello! magazine. The milestone ceremony took place on Saturday, March 21, 2026, at the historic Wrigley Mansion in Phoenix, Arizona.
Surrounded by 220 guests, the event was a massive family affair. The couple celebrated alongside their three children—Calico, Dashiell, and Sonora—as well as their multiple grandchildren. In a touching full-circle moment, Sheryl Cooper‘s 92-year-old father, William Goddard, officiated the ceremony, stepping back into the exact same role he performed during their original 1976 wedding.
During the service, the couple exchanged custom 18-karat yellow gold rings decorated with diamonds and rubies. The jewelry was gifted by longtime family friend Jimmy Chase and specifically designed to accommodate the frontman’s lifestyle, factoring in his golf hobby and how he grips a microphone on stage.
The pair originally met in 1975 when Sheryl Cooper, a trained ballerina, auditioned to dance on the Welcome To My Nightmare tour. They married a year later in Acapulco, Mexico. While they are now known for having one of the strongest marriages in rock history, their early years were difficult. The singer’s severe battle with alcohol addiction—which directly inspired the 1978 album From the Inside—led his wife to file for divorce in 1983. However, the couple eventually reconciled, and the rock icon has maintained his sobriety ever since.
Speaking with Billboard several years ago about their unique dynamic of working and touring together, the legendary frontman shared his perspective on sharing the stage with his spouse.
“We’ve both been in show business all our lives,” Alice Cooper stated at the time. “When we’re on stage, she’s not Sheryl, my wife; she’s the character and I’m the character. We don’t look at each other as husband and wife on stage. But the great thing is, afterwards, we’re on tour. We’re never apart. It’s great.”
“It’s almost hard to do the show without her,” he added. “It’s almost like Burns and Allen. We’re backstage putting makeup on, talking, laughing. She’s going, ‘Okay, when you stab me in the side, wait until my right arm gets way up ’cause it’ll read better. And don’t come down from the side, come in from the top.’ ‘Okay, we’ll try that tonight.'”
The couple has also made headlines over the years due to wild rumors regarding their devotion to one another. In 2019, the rocker had to publicly shut down British tabloid reports claiming the two had a mutual death pact.
“Sheryl and I do NOT have a death pact, we have a LIFE pack,” he wrote on social media at the time to clear the air. “We love life so much. What I was meaning was that because we’re almost always together, at home and on the road, that if something did happen to either of us, we’d most likely be together at the time. But neither of us has a suicide pact. We have a life pact.”
He later explained how a completely innocent interview answer was twisted for clickbait.
“They like to sensationalize everything,” he said regarding the press. “They said, ‘What happens if one of you dies?’ and I said, ‘Oh, that’ll never happen. We’ve always talked about the fact we’ll go together, in an airplane or…if I walk down the street and get hit by lightning, she’ll die too because of the fact she’s right next to me.’ The next thing you know the paper comes out and it goes ‘Alice‘s Death Pact With Wife!'”
“Our Internet just blew up. It was like, ‘How far along is she?’ and ‘Is Alice gonna commit suicide?’ and all that stuff, and it got so blown out of proportion it was all laughable,” he concluded. “I had to put out a statement going, ‘Look, nobody’s sick, nobody’s gonna die. It was a throwaway line that I used that just got blown out of proportion.'”
