Aerosmith frontman Steven Tyler is pushing to move forward with a civil lawsuit trial scheduled for this fall, rejecting a motion by the plaintiff’s attorneys to delay the proceedings. According to a report by Billboard, Tyler is accused of s*xual assault by a woman named Julia Misley, who claims the incidents occurred in the 1970s.
Misley’s legal team filed a motion to postpone the trial, citing what they called “unavoidable delays” in their preparations. However, Tyler’s attorneys submitted a court filing on Tuesday, August 19, arguing against the delay and stating that their client is ready to proceed.
Tyler‘s lawyer, David Long-Daniels, wrote in the filing that “For the past two and a half years, Tyler has been diligently preparing for and awaiting his day in court to defend against Plaintiff’s unmeritorious accusations.” He added that “Tyler deserves to see this matter resolved on the current trial timeline, so that it may have his day in court and not have this case continue to drag on.”
Misley, formerly known as Julia Holcomb, sued Tyler in 2022. She alleges that she was the unnamed person referred to as Tyler‘s “child bride” in his memoir. According to her lawsuit, Tyler “groomed” and “manipulated” her, and s*xually assaulted her for three years, beginning when she was 16. She claims the singer used his fame to gain control over her, including securing legal guardianship from her parents.
While Tyler‘s lawyers have not denied the basic facts of the relationship, they have sought to dismiss the case by portraying the relationship as consensual. They argue that it was a “romantic relationship” between Tyler, who was in his mid-20s, and Misley, who was between the ages of 16 and 19 at the time, arguing that the relationship was legal under the age of consent. That motion is still pending a ruling.
The trial is currently scheduled to begin in October.
