Ace Frehley, the legendary original guitarist for KISS, was laid to rest this week in his hometown borough of The Bronx, New York. His longtime manager, John Ostrosky, confirmed the details of the private services and the icon’s final resting place at Woodlawn Cemetery.
Frehley was buried on Wednesday, October 22, following an intimate memorial service held the previous day at the Sinatra Memorial Home in Yonkers. In a statement to the New York Post, Ostrosky expressed his gratitude to the city officials who assisted the family.
“We would like to thank Frank Sinatra Jr., Joseph Vivona and the entire staff at Sinatra Memorial Home, as well as Yonkers Mayor Mike Spano, Police Commissioner Christopher Sapienza, Chief Richard Alaimo, as well as the supervisors, officers, and especially the Traffic Division for a safe escort to Woodlawn,” Ostrosky said. “Ace would have loved that!”
The services were attended by a small group of close family and friends. According to SiriusXM host Eddie Trunk, who was present, the attendees included the three other founding members of KISS: Paul Stanley, Gene Simmons, and Peter Criss. Trunk confirmed that Frehley was buried “very close to where his parents were buried, which were his wishes.”
Ace Frehley passed away on October 16 at the age of 74. His death came nearly two weeks after a second fall at his home reportedly led to a brain bleed. According to a representative from the Morris County Medical Examiner’s office, while an autopsy was not performed, a toxicology screening is underway to finalize the official cause of death, with results expected in the coming weeks.
In their initial statement, Frehley‘s family said they were “completely devastated and heartbroken” and that in his final moments, they “were fortunate enough to have been able to surround him with loving, caring, peaceful words… as he left this earth.” The private burial in his beloved Bronx marks a final, poignant homecoming for the “Spaceman.”
