AC/DC Fireworks Exceed Noise Limits in Edinburgh, Council Advises Against Future Pyrotechnics

Over 50 years in, AC/DC proved they’re still among the loudest, as fireworks from their Edinburgh show exceeded permitted noise levels.

AC/DC Pittsburgh 2025

More than 50 years into their legendary career, AC/DC has once again proven they are one of the loudest bands on the planet, as the fireworks finale from their recent Edinburgh stadium show has been found to have exceeded “permitted noise levels,” according to BBC News. The City of Edinburgh Council has now advised against the use of pyrotechnics at future events at the venue, adding another chapter to the band’s long history of noise complaints.

The incident occurred at the conclusion of the band’s concert at Murrayfield Stadium on August 21, which was part of the European leg of their massively successful “Power Up” world tour. The council received eight official complaints from local residents about the noise from the show’s pyrotechnic display.

This is far from the first time the hard rock titans have drawn the ire of local residents. In 2015, the noise complaint hotline in San Francisco received numerous calls during the band’s concert at AT&T Park. An even larger incident occurred in 2009, when their show in Munich, Germany, drew over 100 noise complaints, with some coming from as far as 20 kilometers away from the stadium.

The Edinburgh show was part of a major European tour in support of their 2020 chart-topping album, Power Up. The band is now preparing to take their famously loud show to Australia for a run of stadium dates kicking off next month. For a band built on raw, high-voltage rock and roll, a few noise complaints are not a problem, but a badge of honor.
